I am a certified Reading Specialist with 25 years of teaching experience. My experience has been primarily in kindergarten and first grade. I taught for several years Baltimore City, then in Howard County before deciding to stay home with my children. Although I haven't returned to the classroom, I've continued to teach as a private tutor for the past 12 years. I have offered a Reading Enrichment Program to kindergarteners and preschoolers for the past 7 years.
OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM
My goal is to provide children with the skills and confidence they will need to become successful, and hopefully, lifelong readers. The program is based on the Howard County Language Arts curriculum. Through small group instruction, beginning readers are able to acquire the skills they need in a informal learning environment. Skills are presented in a very structured and systematic approach. The program has helped children to strengthen phonetic decoding skills, to apply reading strategies, and to take risks when reading.
